I must say that though I was aware that open heart surgery was in my future, I was hoping that it wasn't going to be within five years of being told that it would be necessary. And given that I expected it to be difficult, I had no idea that my hospital experience would be such a positive one. Since my surgery I have told all that inquire about my experience that should they know anyone that requires a heart procedure to seek out the expertise of The Heart Center!
Not only did I have the best surgeon, but everyone from the nurses, physicians assistants, and respiratory therapy staff to even the folks that clean the rooms were all just WONDERFUL! The staff was right there to help. And they seemed to do it with pleasure. On top of all they did for me during my stay, they sent me home with the most detailed, educational binder that answered any and all questions that I may have had once I returned home.

Today I continue to walk 2–4 miles each day and lift weights 3 days a week. I'm now preparing to speed walk in the 500 mini–marathon. The nurse who took care of me before and after the procedure went above and beyond to see that I was comfortable and at ease with the procedure. Many people come in and out of your facility everyday and I don't think you are given the credit that you all deserve. My whole experience was very comfortable. The gentleman concierge that greeted me was such a kind and professional man. He truly made me and my family feel welcome and that was so appreciated. The nurse who checked me in made me feel comfortable, the weekend shift that made me feel better when I was scared and finding information on my procedures, taking the time to listen to my concerns, thanks. Your room service and food is wonderful! The servers are so pleasant and very nice in appearance and would always make sure everything was just right before they left. The whole concept of room service is great… I know I ate better because of it and here's why… your food is very good, but because I could call down for my food when I was truly hungry, I ate better as a result. The housekeeping staff does a great job too… the clean appearance makes patients feel like they are in a good and safe place where people care about them. You are all wonderful! I am writing to tell you about my terrific experience with your facility. An angiogram performed by Dr. Michael Ball at The Care Group Outpatient Cath Lab adjacent to your hospital revealed that I had a blocked artery, which required a stent. Dr. Ball successfully performed the angioplasty the next morning (at The Heart Center) and I was released the day after and was told by Dr. Ball that I could go back to work on Monday and resume all my normal activities, which includes walking 3 miles a day, immediately.
Dr. Ball is outstanding but I was also tremendously impressed by your facility and the care I received. The room was excellent and the staff was highly competent and attentive in every respect. Donna, who was my nurse on the day shift, was absolutely great! She really was terrific and I felt that she went above and beyond the call of duty in being friendly and pleasant. The other staff members I dealt with were all very caring and competent. I was particularly impressed by your staff to patient ratio, which I understand is one nurse and one assistant to every five patients. On any occasion when I summoned a nurse, I barely got my finger off the call button before they arrived in my room.
The food was also excellent as was the speed with which it was delivered. The idea of dining from a menu and calling room service in a hospital is unbelievable!
In summary, it's hard to believe that going through what I did could be a pleasant experience but I would have to say that it was since I experienced nothing unpleasant during my stay. Thank you to the great staff for making it that way!

Overall my experience has been outstanding. The Heart Center of Indiana has a very different feel than other traditional hospitals. I would give it an "A". The staff response time and courtesy are superb and there truly is a culture of customer service which extends from nurses and support staff to food operations to offering access to the Internet.
